No. The Gastonia Housing Authority provides permanent housing only. GHA does not provide temporary or emergency housing of any kind.

Emergency housing is only offered through homeless shelters. A resource pamphlet titled "Where Are You Sleeping Tonight" has been developed by the City of Gastonia's Community Development Department and provides information for temporary and/or emergency housing and is available in the Self-Service Resource Center rack located in the Central Office lobby and at each site management office.

The GHA Central Office is located at 340 W. Long Ave., Gastonia, NC 28052. Due to staffing and budgetary constraints, the office is not open to the public. You will need to provide names, dates of birth, and social security numbers for all members of the household. In addition, you will need to provide a complete address where you can receive mail and information about your family’s income. You do not need to submit any birth certificates, social security cards, income or other verifications with your initial application.

All applications will be date and time stamped to be accepted by GHA. The application is reviewed and entered into our computer system for placement on the appropriate waiting list(s) in the order that it was received and ranked according to preferences established by the Gastonia Housing Authority.

Assuming that you meet the preliminary requirements, you will be mailed a letter indicating that you have been placed on the waiting list. This letter does not guarantee that you will be housed, but merely acknowledges that your application has been accepted and placed on the waiting list pending further verification.

Once your name reaches the top of the waiting list you will be asked to provide additional information such as, birth certificates and social security cards for each member of the applicant household and written verification of all household income. Additional information may be required.

This letter does not guarantee that you will be housed, but merely acknowledges that your application has been accepted and placed on the waiting list pending further verification.

The Gastonia Housing Authority provides an interactive automated phone system called “My Waiting List” that will allow you to check your position on the waiting list? To use the system dial 704-675-7677 to access the “My Waiting List” feature. Follow the prompts to obtain your position. You will need your social security number and date of birth to access your records.

Let the prompts to enter your social security number and your date of birth finish completely before entering your information. Otherwise, the system may not be able to retrieve your record.

It is normal for waiting list positions to fluctuate based on new applications being entered, applications being dropped, and due to application and system updates.

It is the applicant's responsibility to notify the Gastonia Housing Authority of any changes in income, family composition, employment status, address or phone number.

Changes for Section 8 applicants must be reported in writing. Update forms are available online or you can email us at hcvadmissions@ghanc.org to let us know you need to change the information on your application. Written changes can also be deposited in the drop box located in front of our office or mailed to us at PO Box 2398, Gastonia, NC 28053.

We are not able to make changes to your application over the phone.

NOTE: Any correspondence from the Gastonia Housing Authority does not guarantee that you will be housed. You must meet all screening criteria that the Gastonia Housing Authority uses to determine if you will be offered housing assistance. Each department has different screening criteria. Example: Criminal checks, credit checks, landlord references and many other items may be used to determine if you are eligible for housing assistance.******
